Welcome to LARA, the Leytonstone Area Residents Association.
LARA was formed in October 2008 as several residents in Upper Leytonstone felt that a large number of roads were not covered by any existing associations. This meant that a good proportion of Leytonstone had no voice at important local Council and Safer Neighbourhood meetings.
The area covered by LARA includes about 25 roads within Leytonstone Ward. Utilising the boundary of the ward should enable us to engage more effectively with our relevant Councillors and Safer Neighbourhood Team.
Welcome to the Leytonstone Area Residents Association Website. Access to post on the main site will be restricted to a few key members as it’s envisaged that only major LARA business/announcements and relevant news will be placed here. Anyone will be able to comment on those posts though.
We also have a discussion group set up on Google Groups (see link in the sidebar). Anyone who’s invited can post there, so that will probably become the main area for general discussion. I might set up an RSS feed to the homepage to display the latest topics from there.
I’ve also set up an events calendar using Google Calendar, which does already have an RSS feed onto the homepage, so you can easily see upcoming events. Access to the calendar is public, so anyone can view events. For adding/editing, access is by invitation.
Lastly, we’ve got a flickr group, which is basically a photo gallery. Again, anyone who’s invited can upload to that, see the link in the sidebar.
