LARA AGM 2009 and Public Meeting

September 23, 2009 Leave a comment

The first LARA AGM will take place on:leytonstone_needs_you

Tuesday 13th October at 7:45pm
The United Free Church,
55 Wallwood Road Leytonstone E11 1AY.

This first year for LARA has seen us achieve a lot – we have a fully functional website, a committee which works well together, we have increased our membership and also taken part in several local events. More help is always needed though and the AGM provides an opportunity for LARA members to put themselves forward for a position on the committee. So, if you feel that you could make a positive contribution and would like to help make Leytonstone a better place, please put your name forward either by returning the form enclosed with this flyer or by visiting the LARA website. At the AGM, attending members will be given the opportunity to vote for the candidates. There will also be an opportunity to raise general issues and join LARA. So, even if you’re not up for a committee position or not currently a member, please come along anyway!

Unfortunately, personal commitments have meant that Robin Williams has had to step down as LARA Chairman, but he has generously indicated that he will try to help us out in some capacity in the future. The rest of the committee would like to thank Robin for all his hard work – without his efforts, LARA quite simply would not exist today. Fortunately, Vice Chair Jenny Smith has agreed to step into Robin’s shoes for now.

The committee currently comprises:
Chair/Secretary Jenny Smith Membership Secretary Daphne O’Neill
Vice Chair/Webmaster Carl Moss Treasurer Hugh Nettleton
Events Secretary Phil Wray Green Spaces Sarah Innes

We would also like to expand the committee to include positions covering Planning Control, Safer Neighbourhoods and Street Service Issues.

To put yourself forward for a position on the committee, please complete the form below, stating your name, address, telephone number and the position(s) you would like to be nominated for.

Old Film of Leytonstone

September 21, 2009 Leave a comment

The folks over at the Bushwood Residents Association highlighted this video clip in their latest newsletter. It was shot in Leytonstone in 1938. Hardly riveting entertainment-wise, but fun to spot the places that are still around today and see the old trams trundling up Leytonstone High Road. It also shows one of the four cinemas we used to have here, The Academy.
